Michael J. Dunn’s son, Michael Jr. (Joe) was also musical and played the violin for many Irish dances, mainly those held by the Ancient Order of Hibernians (AOH) between 1913 and 1916.
He graduated from Marquette High School in 1917 and went into Officers Candidate School in Ann Arbor, Michigan. He was stationed in Fort Sheridan, Illinois and was discharged at the end of World War I.
After his service, Joe attended Marquette College and led a dance band called "Mike Dunn's Orchestra." He also played in a band led by Paul Whiteman which included performances in Chicago. These musical adventures helped pay for his law school education.
Joe had two sons Michael III and Dr. David Dunn.
